Workshops and Groups
Workshops and groups are an affordable way for parents and children to gain needed support while enjoying a sense of community with like-minded members.  Shared stories and experiences often serve to reduce the sense of isolation that can result from confronting challenging issues.

Every child naturally wants to feel confident and accepted, yet developing the skills to get along well socially may be a challenge for many children with learning differences.  Research indicates that participation in social skills groups promotes social and emotional learning provided efforts are made to facilitate the generalization of these skills to other settings.  Our weekly groups will help children and adolescents develop the ability to express themselves effectively, empathize with others, successfully resolve conflicts and develop higher self-esteem.  In addition to weekly group meetings, parents will receive frequent updates on the specific social skills taught, along with ideas for supporting the development of these skills in other settings.

Parenting Challenging Children:
A 10-Week Workshop
Support Groups for Siblings of Special Needs Children
Parents of children and adolescents with learning, attention and related disorders are often under considerable stress.  This 10-week workshop helps parents expand their understanding of the academic, behavioral and social challenges confronting children.  Significant emphasis is placed on improving the quality of the parent-child relationship. Techniques for facilitating emotional growth and skill development are also addressed.  Parent groups are organized according to a child’s age and specific learning and behavioral characteristics.  Mother’s groups and couples groups are available.

A POSITIVE AND EFFECTIVE APPROACH TO PARENTING
A sibling’s complex feelings are often overlooked in families focused on caring for a special needs child.  These weekly groups provide a safe, supportive environment for brothers or sisters of special needs children to discuss shared experiences and concerns.  Members have the opportunity to:

Receive help coping with difficult feelings about  family roles
Honor the insight and loyalty that often develop as a result of growing up with a special needs sibling
Gain a broader understanding of their brother or sister’s challenges
Relax and have fun!

SIBLING RELATIONSHIPS ARE FREQUENTLY THE LONGEST LASTING RELATIONSHIPS IN A FAMILY

Support Group for Parents of Bipolar Children & Adolescents
This support group helps parents of bipolar children to expend their understanding of this disorder and its impact of academics, behavior and social relationships. Emphasis is also placed on improving the parent-child relationship. Parent groups are organized according to a child's age range.
